We recommend ‘vitamin’ D from the sun and ‘vitamin’ D rich foods such as cod liver oil. Please note that it is not a vitamin, but rather a hormone, however we will continue to refer to it as a vitamin in this article! We don’t recommend any vitamin D supplements of any kind. Not one. Sally Fallon Morell explains why in this article, Got Vitamin D?, we previously published and recommend you read if you haven’t already. What follows will be a repeat for some, however we’ve included more information due to your inquiries!

COD LIVER OIL

Please see the Weston A. Price Foundation’s recommendations for cod liver oil! Not all cod liver is created equally. Also, please note that fish liver oil is not the same as fish oil. We don’t recommend any fish oil and link to this article by Sally Fallon Morell that explains why. Other food sources of vitamin D besides whole cod livers and cod liver oil include egg yolks, sardines and other fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, salmon roe and beef liver.

We are not the only ones who don’t recommend vitamin D supplementation. Morley Robbins, founder of the Root Cause Protocol, has written a number of articles on the topic. We link to 2 of them: Why I detest hormone-D supplementation and The Vitamin-D Controversy. You will find an entire section on the topic that includes short, readable articles by Jim Stephenson Jr. as well, and we encourage you to read their content! Morley asserts that the best source of vitamin D is sunshine.

Vitamin D comes from the synthesis of UVB radiation, which is less than 5% of the sunshine. While it may be a sunny day, the sun may not have the necessary UVB to activate vitamin D production in our skin due to the latitude we are in, the time of year or time of day. For those who don’t have access to the necessary sunshine needed to produce vitamin D year round, which is many of us, we recommend a lamp that is currently on sale with a 35.8% off discount until the end of December 1. Coupon code 100OFF2025. The lamp mimics the sun exposure that results in vitamin D production via your skin. You use it 5 minutes every other day.

IS THE LAMP EFFECTIVE?

The lamp has a solid, proven record. We serve as a referral partner for them because 1. we’ve found it to be effective with 5 minutes of use, every other day, 2. it has low EMF output, 3. you can return it for any reason and receive a refund within 60 days, 4. it has a 1,000 hour bulb life and 5. a 7 year product warranty. We have had very positive customer service experiences with this company and have referred to them since 2020 after I started using it myself in February of that year. They ship to you for free!

Here is a scientific analysis of the Sperti Vitamin D Sunlamp.

See the following reviews:
The lamp definitely increases vitamin D levels
Fantastic investment for vitamin D levels
Works to raise vitamin D levels without taking a supplement
Raised my vitamin D levels
This vitamin D lamp has helped tremendously

HOW MUCH SKIN DO YOU EXPOSE?

I currenlty just expose the bare skin of my back to the lamp, and sit about a foot away as directed. I have used it under my desk on my calves in the past. You can expose the same area of skin to the lamp or switch it up as you do so every other day for 5 minutes. I like to expose my back ot the lamp because it is a large surface area and I don’t face the lamp that way. Protective glasses do come with the lamp if you want to expose your front.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO RED LIGHT THERAPY?

It doesn’t compare. The vitamin D lamp was created solely to simulate the sun via UVB bulbs for the production of vitamin D via the skin. Red bulbs have no UVB and don’t produce any vitamin D via the skin.
