By popular request, I am in the process of creating a book that will teach children about some of our most sacred traditional food while they learn the alphabet from A to Z. In order to complete the project, I seek pre-order sales to fund the printing costs. Our community members chose the title A Real Food Alphabet that was suggested by Laura Dobbs. I’d love you to support the creation of this book in order to have an educational tool for adults to introduce our Wise Traditions dietary principles to children early on in their lives. Please pre-order and enjoy complimentary shipping within the United States.

Hi Riki,
Thank you so very much for this list! I will keep butter and broth for the letter B, however I have so many photos of beet kvass I love, and may use it for for kvass. I also wanted to use kefir and kombucha though! So many nourishing foods! For the letter S, I’ll keep soup and sourdough, however I have sauerkraut with C for cabbage. U – I think unpasteurized cheese?!
Also, for Q I will use a photo I have a quiche that Sally Fallon Morell made for her master cooking class at the last Wise Traditions conference!
C – creme fraiche
D – date, dragon fruit, duck
E – eggplant, elderberry
F – fatback, foie gras

H – head cheese, haricot vert, horseradish
I – ice cream, Italian sausage
J – jicama

I love the idea of elderberry! Thank you for that one!
A few more ideas…
Sage, saffron.
Xavier soup.
Iceberg lettuce. Ice cream.
Thanks, Stacey! I will include ice cream, homemade, for sure! I will keep S for soup and sourdough. H will include herbs, so sage will fit into that one!
I can’t add many to this list. Riki did a great job. But here are a few:
I – ice cream
R. Roe
Xavier Steak – may be a way to get in the word steak!
Xavier steak has three primary components: a steak, cooked or canned asparagus and Swiss cheese. Grill the steak, top with asparagus, then melt the cheese over the combo. You can also add Worcestershire sauce or a different kind of cheese to switch things up a bit.
P for Pili nuts and pumpkin. U for Ugli fruit and Umeboshi plums. X for Xmas cookies (made with unbleached, or coconut flour and lots of real butter) or any others from this list: https://www.quora.com/What-are-foods-that-start-with-the-letter-X I for homemade ice cream or Iced Dandy Blend
C – Cultured cream/butter, coconut, cast iron
E – Einkorn
F – Fennel
G – Gizzards, grass-fed, gelatin, ghee
I – Ice cream (homemade with fresh raw ingredients, of course!). How excited would little ones be to realize that ice cream, if made properly, can be consumed from time to time as part of a nourishing diet?
K – Kimchi, kelp
O – Organ meats
P – Pate, pasture-raised
R – Raw milk, roe
S – Sardines, soaked/sprouted, salmon, sucanat, spelt
U – Unbleached flour (Could list a few examples of the best types?).
V – Vegetables (sounds silly, but I am imagine a lovely photo of a variety of vegetables saying how wonderful they are to add to our nourishing diets! You could picture a lot more in one photo than naming just a few with different letters).
W – Wild-caught
Y – Yeast (dried nutritional)
Thank you for this list! I’ll certainly use some of them!
I am honored! Absolutely cannot wait to have this book in my hands!
These are fabulous ideas! I cannot wait to read this with my two-year-old, who is sure to love the B-is-for-butter page!
One suggestion/hope I have is to connect the food source, e.g. the animal, with the food on our plate. so like we have “sausage” and it comes from “pigs”. showing a picture of the pig and of the sausage, or something like that. It’s totally okay if this is beyond the scope of your book. You’re doing an amazing thing!!! YAY!!!
I have a plan to create another book that focuses on where our food comes from. This one is focused on the alphabet, and I found it became too complicated to attempt to combine them! Thank you for your support!
why does the S page for Soup also say Slurp?
Several of us liked that addition, since the boy pictured is slurping his soup, and we’ve included the word Moo with Milk as well, since there is a picture of a cow.
Raw Milk
Kombucha
Bone Broth
M for Moringa!
S for Super Sprouts!
G for Guava
Can you include recipes to try with the foods
